Planning to get a new netbook? Before you buy one, you must think about your needs. Do you need something that you can carry around everywhere? Do you need to work outdoors frequently? How much is your budget? These are some of the considerations you have to keep in mind before purchasing a netbook.

Compared to laptops, netbooks are smaller, lighter, more affordable, and more energy efficient. With a netbook, you can easily do basic computing tasks such as creating documents or spreadsheets, listening to music, and watching videos. But unlike laptops, netbooks are not designed for advanced computing jobs such as photo or video editing and playing games with intensive 3D graphics. Netbooks are also not designed to replace desktop computers. These small machines can only serve to complement your laptop or desktop computer at home.

So how do you know if a netbook is perfect for your needs? If you always work away from home and frequently on the go, a netbook is the ideal choice for you. Because a netbook is lightweight, you won’t have any problems carrying it around wherever you go. Netbooks are also good at making users stay connected anytime and anywhere.

You can also go for a netbook if you need to do only simple computing tasks, meaning you don’t need to do image or video editing. If a limited storage space is not a problem for you, then a netbook is the way to go.

When buying a netbook, there a few things that need to be considered. You need to take into account who it’s being purchased for, it’s intended use and so on. One of the most common reasons that users opt for a netbook, as opposed to a conventional laptop, is the improved portability. This brings us to our first point of consideration. Is the netbook light enough? Surely, when buying a device, aimed at portability, lightness is something to look for, but not to be sacrificed, too much, at the expense of quality.

The next thing to consider when buying a netbook is its energy efficiency. While netbooks are known for being excellent in this regard, they still vary widely and your choice should be made, intelligently, depending on the lifestyle of the person to be using it.

Our third point will be performance, the most important to some buyers. Netbooks are known to perform slightly less impressively than their standard notebook counterparts, but this is not necessarily the case. It is, however, important to search for the best performance netbook, that does not incur great costs in some other area discussed here.

Finally, we consider price. Unless money is no object for you, price is of monumental importance. Even if you are loaded with cash no-one should spend 4 times the value on anything so it’s wise to choose carefully. Sometimes, one nifty little feature, you may never use, adds hundreds to the price tag so read descriptions and pick what you need, that you can afford.

A HP spokesperson has reported to ZDNet that the UK will not be releasing a Linux based HP Mini 1000. The Mini 1000 is only available with Windows XP installed which will drive the price up. UK consumers are already paying above average netbook price for the netbook as HP have only released the Viviene Tam Edition Mini 1000. The HP Viviene Tam Mini 1000 Edition retails for £450. It’ll be interesting to see how well this does in the UK market considering more powerful laptops can be purchased at about the same price and similar spec netbooks retail for about half of that.

The Mini 1000 comes with a 10.1 inch display, 60GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM and an Intel Atom N270 processor. Connectivity wise, it comes with WiFi, web cam, bluetooth, 2 USB ports and a 2 in card reader.
