The Asus EEE PC 1000 is a new netbook on the market, and Asus has taken their experience in the netbook field and created a modern, performance-competitive, economical netbook for all users. First thing I noticed was the 40 GB Hard Disk Space, cleverly designed with two hard drives (8 GB and 32 GB), with the latter being a Secure Digital High Capacity drive making it remarkably safe, especially by netbook standards. The next thing to catch my attention was the screen. With its formidable 10 inch size, it had beautiful color, could render up to 1024 x 600 resolution and was viewable from any angle. This made its visual appeal excellent as a netbook.

Of course, when savvy computer users hear about good graphics they think of the battery life. Well this netbook comes adapted to battery conservation when necessary. It’s excellently designed keyboard includes buttons to quickly modify graphics and processor usage settings to adjust to the minimal battery consumption possible when power is critical. The battery itself has a maximum life of 7.5 hours as stated by the manufacturers.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a netbook without net so it has built-in bluetooth and wifi, as well as Skype ready webcam and microphone. The  Asus EEE PC 1000′s expansive feature set and power efficiency make it perfect for the on-the-go user, business or personal.

While HP have phased Linux out of UK netbooks, they’ve also been working on plans for Windows 7 based netbooks. The company plans to offer at least three Windows 7 variants for their netbooks. HP will offer their netbooks with either the Starter Edition, Home Premium and Professional.

Microsoft usually only produces the Starter Edition for developing countries, but the basic operating system will be released in the US for use on netbooks. However with it’s low functionality and many Windows fans already showing dismay at the Starter Edition, many will surely opt for the Home Premium or Professional. The Starter Edition should however keep costs down for the budget concious and those not so concerned with the fancy features of Windows 7. Unfortunately there’s no word on how much the Windows 7 variants will differ.
