When I first heard the term “netbook” I thought my friend was talking about some kind of online book. I later discovered that she was referring to a laptop but, not the usual massive, overweight, not-so-portable electronic slabs many lug around. These netbooks are like miniature laptops with a lot of benefits.

For starters, netbooks are much cheaper than average laptops. Already, a reason many would consider switching over to a netbook for. Also, they are much lighter reminding us that these devices are actually supposed to be portable. When’s the last time you carried a laptop around by hand all day and didn’t feel strained? Well you can walk around with a netbook and with an average weight of 2 or 3 pounds, you should never notice any strain. Yet another portability bonus is the relatively low power consumption of netbooks. These devices can last almost ten hours on average, making them perfect for long trips where productivity or even having fun on your computer is important. This ties in directly with environmentalist goals of reducing energy consumption and in so doing, preserving our planet’s resources – an additional bonus.

One of the slight downsides to netbooks was that they were often less powerful than their normal laptop counterparts. In modern times however, technology has advanced such that these smaller devices can be just as productive as expensive energy-draining laptops. This is mainly through recent advancements in energy-efficient processor technology by Intel that enables the great benefits of netbooks without the once unavoidable, decrease in productivity.
